So just what is nrg and how can you get involved?
nrg - Powered by Choice™ is a unique campaign that lets teens and their social groups come together for a cause with close-to-home impact: a better balance of healthy eating and active lifestyle choices in their schools and communities.
Now here’s where you come in.
The campaign provides adult leaders (teachers, group advisors) with a framework to engage teen groups in these healthy change efforts, and will also recognize and reward groups for their nrg activities. Possible activities include producing media and messages, leading events and fundraisers, taking part in community and civic initiatives, and serving as role models for younger children.
nrg starts with existing or new teen groups in a school or community signing on to support the energy balance cause. Using the campaign guidelines and the assistance of advisors, they identify technologies, products, and services to help them implement and promote the changes they want to make. They create messages expressing "the power of choice" in balancing nutrition and physical activity, and then share them among their social networks, with prompts to support these change efforts.
So if you’re interested in channeling teen "nrg," you can get started today by signing up as an nrg Advisor, spreading the message to your teen group via e-card, and checking out the nrg Action Guides to work with your teens in developing a plan for change in your school or community. You and your teen group can even apply for a Starter Grant and give your plan a little cash boost.
