Take Action

Change It!

nrg - Powered by Choice is a cause campaign that gets people excited about creating environments that support healthy eating and physical activity. The following guidelines and tools will help you be successful at promoting the nrg cause and making the healthy change you want to see in your school or community!

It's as easy as 1 + 2...or 1 + 3! nrg starter grants require that you and your group 1: Own the Message, and either 2: Hold an nrg Event or Fundraiser, or 3: Be and nrg Role Model for younger kids. There are plenty of cool links to help you out.

DO STEP 1: Own the Message – pick the ones you like!

...THEN CHOOSE STEP 2 OR 3!

2: Hold an nrg Event or Fundraiser - here are the steps you need to do!

  • nrg events and fundraisers must support a healthy change in your school or community environment that makes it easier for people to make better eating and physical activity choices (for example: healthy vending machine, new bike racks, fun physical education equipment like DDR or playground)
  • Use nrg in your event title and graphics (for example, "nrg Technodance", "nrg Water Sale")
  • Include information about what your event is supporting in all promotions (for example, the "nrg Technodance to raise money for a Dance Dance Revolution")
  • Publicize your nrg event/fundraiser with your choice of easy-to-use flyer templates at http://www.poweredbychoice.org/minigrant/index.php
  • Use the nrg event morning announcement script to promote your event
    • Incorporate the three nrg Powered by Choice messages
      • It’s your thing
      • Find your Balance
      • It’s about Choice
    • If you’re looking for specific healthy eating and physical activity message content, check our nrg Action Guides (http://www.poweredbychoice.org/guides/index.php)
    • Use the nrg event banner template and nrg event flyer template to promote the nrg cause and get attendees at your event (download from Action Guide)
  • Be the change...serve healthy eating and beverage options at your nrg events and fundraisers

3. Be an nrg Role Model – if holding an nrg event/fundraiser isn’t your thing, you can promote nrg messages with younger kids instead!

  • Work with elementary school groups to teach them about balancing healthy eating and physical activity.
  • Participate with them in PANA’s Enter the Zone events like The Great American Apple Crunch and Go for the Greens. Get more info about these events on the PANA website at: http://www.panaonline.org/programs/khz/enterthezone/index.php

Good luck and have fun spreading the nrg message
